Description:

Dibucaine hcl is a local anesthetic of the amide type now generally used for surface anesthesia. It is one of the most potent and toxic of the long-acting local anesthetics and its parenteral use is restricted. The drug blocks both the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses by decreasing the neuronal membrane's permeability to sodium ions. This reversibly stabilizes the membrane and inhibits depolarization, resulting in the failure of a propagated action potential and subsequent conduction blockade.
In combination sodium Dibucaine hcl is administered to dogs to induce rapid, humane, painless euthanasia. The euthanasia solution is toxic to wildlife. Euthanized animals must be properly disposed of by deep burial, incineration or other method in compliance with state and local laws

Application:

Spinal anesthesia (high, low, saddle block) and topically to produce surface anesthesia.
Eye:To anesthetize conjunctiva and cornea prior to superficial procedures (including tonometry, gonioscopy, removal of foreign bodies or sutures, corneal scraping).
Nose and Throat:To abolish laryngeal and esophageal reflexes prior to bronchoscopy, esophagoscopy.
Skin:To relieve pruritus, pain, burning.

Indication:

For production of local or regional anesthesia by infiltration techniques such as percutaneous injection and intravenous regional anesthesia by peripheral nerve block techniques such as brachial plexus and intercostal and by central neural techniques such as lumbar and caudal epidural blocks. Dibucaine hcl is an amide-type local anesthetic, similar to lidocaine.
For epidural anesthesia and spinal anesthesia. This product is easy through the mucosa, but also for surface anesthesia, but because of its toxicity is too large (about 15 times higher than procaine), less for infiltration anesthesia.

Dosage and Usage:

Limited to adult subarachnoid block, generally limited to 10mg, shall not exceed 15-20mg.

Topical dosage forms and their usage and dosage:
1. Cream 0.5%, applied to the skin affected area, each prescription for 24 hours, adult 30mg is limited to children 2.5 ~ 5.0mg.
2. Ointment 1%, for the hemorrhoid coated surface of the lesion, early, late and after a time.
Epidural anesthesia and spinal anesthesia with 0.2-0.25% solution, total 7.5-12mg; surface anesthesia with 0.05-0.2% solution; infiltration anesthesia with 0.01-0.1% solution, the total does not exceed 15mg.
